Audi brought two world debuts and an array of show firsts to Frankfurt in September 2019. The brand with the four rings used the International Motor Show (IAA) to showcase a stunning collection of new products, both in the e-mobility area and from its range of conventionally powered models. The Press Conference on September 10 featured the unveiling of the Audi AI:TRAIL concept car, the vision of a future electrically powered off-roader. Another model making its first appearance was the new Audi RS 7 Sportback, with which Audi Sport GmbH is expanding its portfolio of high-performance automobiles. In the shape of the e-tron FE06, Audi’s Formula E racing car could be admired for the first time in its new technical configuration and with its new design.
With the new concept Cupra Tavascan, Seat shows the electric future of the performance brand Cupra. In the Seat Tarraco FR celebrates its premiere as a plug-in hybrid at the IAA. But there is more to discover like the full electric Seat Mii or the Cupra Ateca Special Edition.
Seat has given its SUV model Tarraco a plug-in hybrid drive. The Seat Tarraco FR PHEV with an 85 kW electric motor and a 13 kWh battery, will celebrate its premiere at the IAA in a few days.As the PHEV model with a system output of 180 kW will be the most powerful variant of the series, it comes ex-works with the sporty FR design. The plug-in powertrain comes largely from the VW Passat GTE but has 20 kW more system power in the Tarraco. According to WLTP measurements, the hybrid petrol-electric SUV should have a range of around 50 kilometres – since the car has not yet been homologated, the Spanish Volkswagen subsidiary does not want to give exact figures.According to the Seat’s own information, the petrol engine has a power output of 110 kW, while the electric motor contributes 85 kW – as in the VW model. However, since the system output in the Passat GTE is only 160 kW, Seat seems to have opted for a sportier design in the hybrid drive application. The high-voltage accumulator has a capacity of 13 kWh in both models. But there is one difference to the Passat: the charging socket is not hidden in the front of the radiator grille but is located on the driver’s side between the front wheel and the driver’s door.
Porsche presented eight new products at the 68th International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt am Main. The focus at the IAA was on the brand’s first all-electric sports car, the Taycan Turbo and Turbo S. To coincide with the start of the motor show, there were also new additions to the 911 family. The all-wheel-drive models 911 Carrera 4 Coupé and 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet. The new vehicles at the IAA therefore reflect the Porsche product strategy. In future, the sports car manufacturer will focus on three drive technologies, namely highly emotive petrol engines, powerful plug-in hybrid powertrains and all-electric drives.
This year sees the introduction of the new ŠKODA iV sub-brand and the company’s two first electrified production models – ŠKODA’s first plug-in hybrid, the SUPERB iV, and the CITIGOe iV – the Czech carmaker is thus entering the era of electromobility. In addition to the SUPERB iV, a rugged SUPERB SCOUT has also been added to the portfolio of the recently revised flagship. The SCALA compact car and the KAMIQ city SUV also both come in two new variants: the new, top-of-the-range MONTE CARLO* versions exude a sporty lifestyle, and the two new G-TEC variants have been added to ŠKODA’s portfolio of efficient and particularly eco-friendly cars that run on natural gas (CNG). ŠKODA is continuously advancing the implementation of its 2025 Strategy when it comes to digitalisation too: ŠKODA AUTO DigiLab has brought several new digital services onto the market.
