The collaborative robot that gives SEAT cars their name

Description

As part of its commitment to creating a factory that is smart, digitalised and connected, the SEAT Martorell plant has successfully implemented two unique collaborative robots. They work at the beginning of the assembly line and are responsible for attaching the names of the SEAT Ibiza and Arona on the rear hatches as they make their way down the line, with no delay to the process and sharing space with the factory personnel. The two collaborative robots, one on each side of the line, attach two kinds of lettering – the one on the left side of the cars selects the name Ibiza or Arona according to the model coming down the line, while the one on the right side places the FR badge on the corresponding versions. Both robots are equipped with a mechanical hand designed to select the different types of letters using suction cups, remove the protective wrap on the rear, attach them to the car by applying the required pressure, remove the protective wrap on the front and deposit it in a recycling bin.In addition, they also feature a system of artificial vision used in several steps of the process to make final adjustments which eliminate deviations. All this happens as the vehicles move along the assembly line. Thanks to this novelty, this operation performs while the cars are in motion, without the need for stopping the line.

  • Seat - The art of robot whispering

432,500 dollars. That was the winning bid made for a portrait painted by an algorithm at New York's Christie's auction house. The artwork “Portrait of Edmond de Belamy” is just one of the latest examples of how technology and artificial intelligence are making their way into an activity, art, which until now was thought to be strictly the domain of humans. But there's more, including the humanoid AI-DA, the world's first robot artist, or the AGLAE, a particle accelerator working in the Louvre Museum, and… the robot whisperer. This is the name given to Madeline Gannon, an artist, researcher and lecturer in a Masterclass by SEAT at the SONAR+D. She took advantage of her trip to Barcelona to visit the SEAT factory in Martorell, where she whispered to the 2,000 robots that function 24 hours non-stop, and which are identical to those that interact with her in the work she carries out.

  • SEAT presents the Tarraco FR PHEV at 2019 IAA

Seat has given its SUV model Tarraco a plug-in hybrid drive. The Seat Tarraco FR PHEV with an 85 kW electric motor and a 13 kWh battery, will celebrate its premiere at the IAA in a few days.As the PHEV model with a system output of 180 kW will be the most powerful variant of the series, it comes ex-works with the sporty FR design. The plug-in powertrain comes largely from the VW Passat GTE but has 20 kW more system power in the Tarraco. According to WLTP measurements, the hybrid petrol-electric SUV should have a range of around 50 kilometres – since the car has not yet been homologated, the Spanish Volkswagen subsidiary does not want to give exact figures.According to the Seat’s own information, the petrol engine has a power output of 110 kW, while the electric motor contributes 85 kW – as in the VW model. However, since the system output in the Passat GTE is only 160 kW, Seat seems to have opted for a sportier design in the hybrid drive application. The high-voltage accumulator has a capacity of 13 kWh in both models. But there is one difference to the Passat: the charging socket is not hidden in the front of the radiator grille but is located on the driver’s side between the front wheel and the driver’s door.
