Ian McKellen Apologizes For Foot-In-Mouth Podcast Remark About Gays And Sexual Abuse

Description

British actor Sir Ian McKellen ate humble pie Saturday for comments he made about Bryan Singer and Kevin Spacey. The director and actor have both been accused of sexual harassment and assault by multiple parties. In a podcast, McKellen had suggested that if closeted people were open about their sexuality, they wouldn't abuse others. That, of course, is wrong. My intention was to encourage the LGBT audience I was addressing, to be proud and open about their sexuality. Sir Ian McKellen Uproxx reports McKellen has worked with Singer many times, most notably as Magneto in the original run of X-Men films. McKellen has never shared the screen with Spacey, but they worked together when the former was the artistic director of London’s Old Vic.
