Description

According to Gizmodo, Lu Wei, the former chief of the imposing Cyberspace Administration of China and one of the primary architects of the mass censorship foisted on China’s estimated 700 million internet users, has pleaded guilty in Chinese court to taking about $4.6 million worth in bribes. Lu, a former staffer for the state-run Xinhua News Agency, also became the vice mayor of Beijing from 2011-2013. He was found guilty of accepting $277 million in bribes between 2008 and 2018, and has been called China's most corrupt financial official. Execution by lethal injection is not a typical punishment for corruption, which usually results in a lifetime prison sentence.
