Italy Cries Victory As Spain Opens Port To Ship Of Rescued Migrants

Description

Italy and Malta had both refused to let the MV Aquarius ship to dock in their ports causing a stalemate. The ship sailed to Italy from Libya where it rescued passengers including 11 children and seven pregnant women. Matteoo Salvini, the interior minister of Italy, said the ship should go to Malta. Malta refused, saying it had no involvement in the rescue mission overseen by the Italian Coastguard. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced the ship will be allowed to dock in Valencia. Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said Spain’s offer meant Italy was “no longer alone”.
