Anger Rising at Saudi Government for Hajj Disaster

As countries tally the numbers of dead and injured from the stampede near Mecca — the anger outside Saudi Arabia continues to grow. The loudest critic among them is Iran. Thousands of people took to the streets in Tehran after Friday prayers to denounce the "incompetency" of Saudi Arabia in handling the annual hajj pilgrimage. They marched in anger after at least 700 people died during a stampede in Mina, a neighborhood that pilgrims pass through as part of the hajj, on their way to Mecca. Iranian government officials and religious leaders have also spoken out, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. According to Reuters, Saudi Arabian health minister Khalid al-Falih said in a statement that the deaths were the fault of the pilgrims who did not follow the rules.
